Radio scanner...what's that for then?
It started as a bit of curiosity, but now is an indispensable tool for keeping abreast of any bush fires in the area.
This model is quite cheap from Dick Smith, but can store 80 channels (more than heaps!) and the range is pretty good (over 20kms) with the built in antenna it comes with.
Of course, now that the radio bug has bitten, I think some UHF CB or SSB gear might be next... We need more antennas!
